Reinventing the bike: current trends and innovations in the bike market
Innovations continue to shape the bicycle industry—from extremely lightweight motors to smart cockpits. Check back regularly on our blog to find out which innovations are revolutionizing cycling, with manufacturers such as Trek, Cube, and Stevens setting new standards with high-tech drives and connectivity.
The new generation engine: powerful, barely audible, light as a feather
The Bosch Performance Line CX motor is now even lighter, weighing in at around 2.8 kg, and offers a full 85 Nm of torque at a maximum power output of 600 watts. It features improved sensor technology and a new gearbox without the typical rattling noise, making it significantly quieter and more responsive when riding. In addition, its integration into the frame is more flexible, giving manufacturers more design options. It is used by Trek, Kalkhoff, and Canyon, among others. (More on this: eMTB News)
Shifting gears without stress: the intelligent AI gearshift that thinks for itself
Pinion is expanding its popular Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU) with Smart.Shift technology "Auto.Shift." Since mid-2024, riders have been able to shift gears fully automatically and under pedaling load thanks to AI support. The gears always adapt optimally to cadence and speed, ensuring a significantly smoother ride without interruption. This is currently available in many MGU bikes from Cube, Stevens, and Canyon. Ultimate control: ABS brakes, now also available for mountain bike enthusiasts
New is ABS Pro, a further development of Bosch's Trail ABS. It allows controlled braking with more slip and ensures stable deceleration with a high level of control. The control system is designed specifically for off-road use with two modes (Trail Pro and Race) and responds much more sensitively to the requirements of sporty cyclists. Frame of the future: When carbon battery and motor merge completely
With its Carbotecture frame, Cube presents a fully integrated monocoque carbon frame in which the battery and motor form a single unit. High-modulus fibers and special resin particles ensure maximum stiffness with low weight and high durability. The special manufacturing process using "Twin Mold" technology reduces wrinkling and ensures an extremely robust and lightweight chassis. (More on this: Cube)
The smart cockpit: connected, informative, and always up to date
Stevens integrates the Pinion cockpit, a fully digital display with cloud connectivity, maintenance reminders, and integrated anti-theft protection. The smart cockpit allows riders to check the vehicle status, gear shifts, and riding data at any time to ensure the best possible riding experience. The system also supports remote updates and is a harbinger of smart bicycle technology of the future. (More on this: YouTube)
